Search Engine Optimisation Tips (Back to Introduction)
Tip 5. Include your keywords in your site's text
One of the primary factors used to determine whether your site will be included in a search engine's results for a particular term is whether the term appears in the text of the site.
For example, if you decide to target the keyword "Rental Car", then version 2 of the text is better.
Version 1 - "Your car will be ready for you when you arrive at the airport"
Version 2 - "Your rental car will be ready for you when you arrive at the airport"
In general, the following guidelines hold true:
- The more a word is mentioned, the better
- The earlier in the page the word is mentioned, the better
- Mentions in "important parts" of the page such as titles, headings and emphasised text carry more weight than those in the text body.
*It is important to not over use a keyword. As a general rule if your copy still reads well, you will not have over done it. Also don't get bogged down in making tiny adjustments.
