Search Engine Optimisation Tips (Back to Introduction)
Tip 6. Keep your site's technology simple
Search engines can only "read" relatively primitive sites. If they can't read your site, then you don't get listed. In other words you don't get any customers.
Keeping this tip as non-technical as possible, the best way to determine if a site is at least reasonably search engine friendly is use a "spider simulator" which gives you an indication of what a search engine can see. If it can't see your text, then the text will not boost your rankings.
Some things to bear in mind:
- Search engines cannot read the contents of images
- Search engines cannot index Flash (for non-techies - this is the technology used in many introduction pages that make you want to press the "skip intro" button.
Dispelling a common myth - Good search engine design is not incompatible with good web site design.
